From the projects featured on my homepage you will already get an impression of the fields i am interested in. i am equally fascinated by immediate, emotional and tactile design strategies and algorithmic, numeric approaches. there are many connections between the two fields, some obvious, some hidden. to explore them yields a rich source of surprise for the designer who has always done either of the strategies. 
The main focus of the project will be to experiment with mathematically designed forms and surfaces, understanding them and employing them in an architectural design process. aspects of the experiment are mainly usability, relation of different design processes and characteristics of the outcome. as the principal mathematical modelling tool is MATHEMATICA, a special software, a translation tool to usual cad packages has to be designed in order to exchange data. for the exact solution to this problem i do not have a perfect solution yet but the kind support from ralf schaper (mathematics) and his magnificent book on graphics with MATHEMATICA. |
